News from Mission Outreach
One of the Mission Outreach Committee’s major initiatives over the past four years has been the founding of and support forToddlers’ Play Date. Joan Whitlock, Juliet Baker, and Susie Kraeger developed a free, non-sectarian program to meet toddlers’ need to have a place to play, make new friends, learn new skills and appreciate individual differences. At the same time their caregivers visit with the other adults, learn about community resources, and support one another. Attendance at the twice-weekly program (Wednesday and Friday mornings) varies from 1 or 2 children and their caregivers (usually parents or grandparents) to 10+ children plus caregivers. Real changes take place as a result of the children’s experiences at the Play Date: some shy ones become more outgoing, some reticent ones become more communicative, some actually begin playing with one another, and, miracle of miracles, some begin to willingly share their toys. Joan and Susie continue to be mainstays of the program, along with Marian Holmes, of the First Baptist Church. They always welcome additional volunteers. If you would like to see what Toddlers’ Play Date is all about, you are cordially invited to the final Toddlers’ Play Date for this school year onJune 13th from 9:30 to 11:30. There will be an “ice cream social” on the back lawn of the church. Come and join the fun!
Coming soon! The Mission Outreach Committee will host a potluck supper for all parishioners to learn about the committee’s work and to generate new ideas about how the St. Margaret’s parish community can reach out to our broader community. Stay tuned to this space for more info about date and program.
Meanwhile, if you see a need that St. Margaret’s can help fill, please tell us about it. Call John Arrison at 338-4605, or email him at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
