News from Peter in Merida, Mexico
We have FINALLY finished the renovations on our Mexican casa. We are so pleased with the results & are now ready to receive visitors in our guest palapa. There is so much to do here in the Yucatán & especially in the city of Mérida…museums, ruins, free concerts, symphony, opera, & just fun trips out to the small pueblos. The Yucatecans are so friendly & helpful, especially if you speak a little Spanish. They are so anxious to share their culture with the gringos!
There’s a very lively group of expats with whom we have made many friends. Many live here year-round, but many are also now returning to the US & Canada for the warmer months…the snowbirds.
I’m still singing in the choir at the English Mass at the Cathedral every Sunday. We are only five but at least each part is covered. Most of our friends are attendees. Every Sunday we have a different priest, but they are all good English-speakers & very welcoming. I also work at the English library a couple of times a week. It is a center for English-speakers to gather to chat, take out books & get information on living in Mérida. I’ve met lots of interesting people there, too.
I’m attaching a few pictures of our house if you care to share them with the parish. I’ve included a picture of our two “adoptees” who will be traveling back to Maine with us…we hope!! I so enjoy reading News from the Pews every week to keep abreast of our parish work. I miss everyone, especially singing in our own choir.
Blessings to all!
