Potluck supper July 13th
St. Margaret’s next potluck will feature Greek food and any number of American specialties, too. Bring what you like to eat… or experiment with one of the recipes we just put on the Time and Talent Table. Our dinner will be Saturday, July 13th at 6 and the men from the Re-Entry Center are looking forward to joining us again.
According to Nancy Gaifyllia, writing for Ask.Com, “Greek Food is a wonderful mix of dishes that appeal to all tastes… from simple grilled foods and vegetables to rich layered casseroles and delicate pastries.” She has provided 25 classic recipes at Ask.com/GreekFood. We’ve copied a few of them for our use: “Horta Vrasta,” boiled greens dressed with olive oil and lemon, “Avgolemono, a chicken soup made with lemons and rice that’s served in every Greek restaurant, and “Moussaka,” a casserole made by layering eggplant with a spiced meat filling and topping with a bechamel sauce.
In the folder you will also find a recipe for “Baklava,” a phyllo pastry filled with walnuts and almonds, “Tiropites,” phyllo cheese triangles, and several Greek dips. Please join the group for dinner whether you try a Greek recipe or bring a meatloaf or green salad. All are welcome, including non-cooks who can help us clean up. Come a bit before 6 if your dish needs to be reheated or assembled. And remember to bring your own beverages.
