Deacon’s Corner

Dear friends,

Thanks to all of you who contributed to the huge success of our church’s Yard Sale fund-raiser. We raised $1,125 dollars, which will be used to defray the cost of church’s newly installed insulation. Even though we are and have been warm, in recent weeks, we’ll appreciate that warmer church this Winter!

Now that we have provided you with a way to eliminate some of your unwanted, no longer needed household items at the yard sale, would you also consider cleaning out some of closets and bureaus, for a good cause?. We will begin our final Men’s Clothing Drive of the year, during the month of September. A donation container will be provided, after Labor Day weekend.

Remember, the residents at the Re-Etnry Center do and will appreciate that warm clothing–jackets, hats, gloves, shoes,,boots coats, pants, shirts, and sweatshirts and pants that you provide.

And finally, remember the upcoming 50th Anniversary Celebration of Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream’ speech, on Wednesday, August 28th, at 6:30 pm. This Celebration will take place on the front lawn, at the First Church, (United Church of Christ, on Miller Street) There will an ecumenical choir, and other music, and celebratory activities to celebrate that historic Civil Rights speech and march on Washington.

Enjoy the remaining days of August, with your family and friends. And to many of you who have been away, or busy with vacations and visits with family and friends, as the song goes, “See you in September”!

Peace and blessings. Tom
