Choir – A Ministry of Music
Many of our parishioners have told me how much they enjoy our Ministry of Music. For those of us in that ministry, the choir is a metaphor for life. We thank God for the gifts and the uniqueness God has given to each soul. We come together to share our gift of song for worship and praise, lifting our voices and instruments to acknowledge God’s love for us and to express our love of God, of each member of our parish family, and of our visitors.
In life we learn to communicate in our native tongue. As we cross the boundaries of our own culture into that of our fellow humans, we often find it impossible to communicate through the words of our so familiar language. Yet, many say that there is a universal language: The language of Love. When words alone are inadequate to express love, we discover that music can be a mystical vehicle that moves the human spirit, bridging gaps of culture, language, and time. To fully experience music is to fully experience the heart and soul of the composer, the musician, the vocalist.
Choir – a ministry of Music! Music – a gift of Song. Song – a gift of Love. God – the source of all gifts, of all Love, and the object of our worship. Jesus – the hope of our lives, our Savior and our Lord. The Holy Spirit – the source of our comfort and strength. God gives to each some gift. In the example of Jesus’s living, we are shown that those gifts are to be shared. In that sharing, the gift grows, we grow.
We look forward to the promises of Revelation that, living faithfully according to God’s Word, we will all one day eternally unite in spirit and in voice with the heavenly hosts to sing God’s praise. Then will the Ministry of Music be fulfilled.
Wishing you and yours the joys of harmony, love, and peace this Christmas season,
