God Loves a Cheerful Giver
God has been active at St. Margaret’s while I was away for my friend Cindi’s ordination in Minneapolis and the pastoral care conference in Orlando. Much activity continued this week.
Thank you to Dennis Urick, Larry Theye, and two men from the Re-Entry Center for picking strawberries on Wednesday for an upcoming event and to Betty Becker-Theye, Judith Cox, Pat Griffith, Mary Rackmales, Chris Urick, and Cynthia Zajac for preparing them.
The Building Committee had a productive meeting on Thursday afternoon, with Don Cox, John Cuozzo, John Gregory, Lou Pelletier, Dick Pickering, Larry Theye, and I participating.
People contribute to the work of God in our parish and in the larger community on a daily basis. Some receive recognition and others do not. Remember that you make a difference in building up the Body of Christ and you bring the Gospel alive in Belfast, Maine, and the surrounding area in 2016.
We have additional ministry needs. Please consider joining Eucharist Visitor ministry, which could involve one visit a month or a few visits per week depending on your schedule. I will lead a training of less than an hour, you’ll complete the Safe Church Training online, and you will be accompanied on your first visit. It’s important to make the sacraments available to our parishioners who are unable to attend church. This is one of the ways the Lord’s Table is extended from the Eucharist we share together at the Wednesday Healing Service and Eucharist and the Sunday Eucharist.
We need more Chalice Bearers at Sunday Eucharist. This involves a brief training and licensing by the diocese (I will process the paperwork.)
St. Margaret’s connection with the Re-Entry Center continues. The men involved in this program – currently the only one in the State of Maine – are in the final months of their jail sentence and getting integrated back into the community. They attend our Global Cuisine Potlucks, evenings with pizza and board games, and some volunteer with us or attend liturgy. Please contact Chris Urick or me if you have a heart for this important ministry.
The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. ~ 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
