Love in Lent
The Outreach Committee is sponsoring a LOVE IN LENT project to lighten our way through this penitent season. This is a great time to ‘love thy neighbor as thyself’, which we say in our confession every Sunday.
The recipient of this project will be Waldo Community Action Partners (WCAP). The OR committee has helped out this winter with emergency needs they have had – diapers, socks, underwear, housing. The need is ongoing.
I have met with the caseworker at WCAP who oversees the Head Start children’s programs, which not only provide early education and socialization skills instruction but monitors their families weekly for other basic needs of life. She believes this would be an excellent niche for St. Margaret’s to help out. This has been designated as an OR goal for 2017.
There is a big blue bin, clearly marked LOVE IN LENT in the Parish Hall. For the weeks of Lent, beginning on March 1, we welcome your donations of diapers, children’s socks and underwear, primarily for 3 – 5 year olds who have the greatest need.
So far from my on-the-street research today, the most economical store at which to buy kids socks is Ocean State. Diapers – Hannaford’s home brand, any size. Kids underwear – The Dollar stores.
If for any reason, shopping is not your thing, please feel free to give a monetary donation and a member of the committee will purchase items for your gift.
After Lent, we will evaluate this project to see if it’s been beneficial to the children in our neighborhoods.
Thank you in advance for your support of this effort.
