The Summer Meeting of the Diocesan Council was in Millinocket. The Rev. Lael Sorenson and I are the two representatives from the mid-coast area. This meeting included the Annual Meeting of the Maine Episcopal Missionary Society. The Bishop’s reflections – leadership in contentious times – prompted much discussion among the clergy and laity present.
Issues considered were: the 2017 Budget and 2018 Income estimates; new initiatives; various grant processes, and the 2017 Convention on Planning.
There will be a Bicentennial Task Force as we look ahead to 2020. This is also the Maine Bicentennial year. The Bishop’s Report included an interesting observa-tion…the median age of all clergy in this diocese is 70.1 years; six priests are in their 90’s. We can look toward the near future when “Baby Boomers” will be retiring.
The next meeting of the Diocesan Council is September 9th in Rockland.
